How important is maintaining the direction of hair wefts when putting them on the tape?

Post by ballerinamom on Tue 14 Sep 2010, 1:07 pm

Singer Ė On your video when you lay out your machine wefts (which are already doubled up and sewn together) you lay them out on the table and then you say that you like to ďmake sure that they are all cutically aligned going the same direction.Ē With a weft, cuticles are already sewn in cutically correct, so that part is taken care of. But "going the same direction" seems to mean that you want all of the cut wefts facing the same direction (like all of them laying on a table facing up. I assume you mean that the reason for this is so that they wonít tangle. Arranging the wefts the way you recommend is easy to do if you have just unrolled your wefts, however, if you have a pile of hair from an old install and you didnít pay attention to the direction they were facing when you removed them, it is really hard to figure this out. To make it worse, I am using hand-tied wefts, so I canít really tell which way I originally had them because I canít just look at the beard. The beard seems integrated into the wefts, not in front or in back. (I am using Bohyme silky straight hand-tied.) I want to fix my pile of mixed up wefts before I do my next install, but I donít know if I can. I have watched videos on youtube showing how to make a hand-tied weft, and have put many hours into figuring this out, but it is hopeless! I just donít think I can fix the wefts now that they are all mixed up. So, I guess my question is, is it REALLY that important for reducing tangling to have all of the wefts facing the same direction? Also, letís say you are taking a 10 inch hand-tied weft and folding it over to make a 5 inch weftóthis would DEFINITELY be an example of wefts that are not going the same direction. Does it follow that doubled wefts are more prone to tangling? I know that many DIY websites say that you arenít supposed to cut hand tied wefts and say to fold them over. Are these websites giving bad advice?

Thanks!

Hi ballerinamom

First of all WELCOME to the forum and sorry I didn't get here sooner to help you, Feel free to call if needed or email, sometimes this can be faster help for you,
but DO NOT WORRY!

Your wefts will be just fine either way you lay them down, it just always nice to keep them -FLAT as can be and with a double sewed weft like I was using in the
video, they all lay down much flatter when they are all the same.
Just know you can use your wefts on either side and you can fold your hand tied if you like not to worry, I used Bohyme hand tide many times and I DID cut them
but I always laid them in a nice line of LG GLUE, and I waited for it to dry really good so they never shed.
They never tangled!so go ahead and use your many wefts just try to make them as flat as possible, Good luck and I hope this helped, if you need more help feel free
to call,I am here for you!

Thank you Singer, that makes me feel much better. I just finished sorting them out and am so anxious to put them back in (but I haven't had time). I think I will put in some of them tonight.

Thank you for this helpful forum!
